I have been thinking a lot about why I could enjoy the lst church activity I went to.
I think it boils down to this: the people matter.
The doctrine has some weight.
The history doesn’t really matter.
The only thing that matters is the sum of the experiences with people that I have at Church. The history and doctrine consist (80% or so) of the people who are interpreting the doctrine and creating the history.
If I can go to LDS events where I enjoy and spend time with the people, then, what difference does it make what they preach? I can ignore or fight against what I don’t like and enjoy what I do.
