The missionaries are taught that one scripture from the Bible that “proves” the truth of the Book of Mormon includes the following verses from Ezekiel:
15. The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,
16. Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:
17. And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.
This proves the Book of Mormon, they say, because it is obvious that these sticks are talking about different “books” and showing the process whereby they are “bound together” (quite literally) to become “one witness”. As with the board nailed down in two places, the doctrine is then solid and cannot be misinterpreted because there are “two witnesses” to Jesus Christ and His gospel.
